Ghana's Defence Minister nominee, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has addressed concerns regarding his impartiality following his appointment, particularly concerning his previous role as the Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
During his appearance before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, January 28, Dr Boamah made it clear that he had resigned from his position in the NDC after the 2024 elections, emphasising that his current role in government would not affect his impartiality.
Responding to questions about potential conflict of interest, Dr Boamah firmly reassured the Committee and Ghanaians that there was no cause for concern.
"No Ghanaian should have any fear about my impartiality. In fact, I can be the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) and I will be impartial," he stated. He stressed that he was committed to fairness and transparency in his new role, regardless of his political background.
Dr Boamah elaborated on his previous responsibilities within the NDC, stating that he had only taken up the position for the party’s IT and Elections work in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.
"I took up the job of the NDC for IT and Elections, and after the elections, I told them my job was over," he confirmed.
He asserted that his professional journey has always been about delivering on his roles and responsibilities and that his commitment to his new position would be no different.
Dr Boamah reassured the public that his focus now lies entirely with his duties as Defence Minister nominee.
