In an innovative development towards revolutionizing emergency healthcare in Ghana, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has successfully piloted the integration of SnooCODE RED’s cutting-edge emergency logistics technology into its ambulance service. The pilot project, which included training over 150 medical emergency professionals, aims to enhance the hospital’s emergency response capabilities, saving countless lives and significantly improving healthcare outcomes.
As part of this technology adoption, Edem Fiatsonu, the Lead Mathematician at SnooCODE is engaging medical professionals on how to leverage SNOOCODE red into swift emergency response to save lives. These models, including the Emergency Acuity Score (EAS) and Pediatric Early Warning Scores (PEWS), dynamically prioritize patients based on the severity of their conditions and optimize ambulance routing. Early projections indicate that this technology could save over 5,000 lives annually in Ghana by reducing response times and increasing efficiency.
The project has received praise from Medical Experts and Technology Leaders
For instance, Dr. Ama Nkrumah, Head of the Emergency Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, lauded the initiative: “This collaboration with SnooCODE represents a transformative step in emergency healthcare. The precision and real-time adaptability of the Emergency Acuity Score (EAS) and related algorithms will enable us to prioritize critically ill patients and provide timely interventions. With these tools, we are poised to set a new standard in emergency response in Ghana.”
As Ghana’s trauma 1 hospital, we are setting a pace to digitalise ambulances for other West African countries to emulate. We are grateful to Edem and his team for making this possible to save over 5000 lives every year.
SnooCODE CEO, Mr. Dagadu Sesinam, expressed his pride in the successful pilot: “SnooCODE RED’s integration into Korle Bu’s emergency services is a testament to our commitment to using technology to save lives. This collaboration underscores the potential of homegrown innovations to tackle systemic challenges in healthcare. The efficiency gains demonstrated in this pilot show that Ghana can lead the way in leveraging technology for health logistics.”
Edem Fiatsonu, who served as the training coordinator and the mastermind behind the project’s mathematical models, remarked: “It has been a privilege to work with Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on this initiative. Our algorithms are designed to adapt dynamically to real-world challenges, ensuring that every second counts in emergency care. I am confident that this technology will not only save lives but also inspire other healthcare institutions to embrace data-driven solutions.”
Scaling for National Impact
Following the success of the pilot, plans are underway to scale the technology for nationwide implementation. The offline functionality of SnooCODE RED ensures that it remains effective in under-served and rural areas, extending its life-saving benefits to communities with limited infrastructure.
This initiative marks a pivotal moment for Ghana’s healthcare sector, as it bridges the gap between technology and emergency medical services, offering hope for a more responsive and efficient healthcare system.
