Residents of Abuesi in the Shama District of the Western Region have been left in shock following the alleged suicide of a 14-year-old boy in his father’s uncompleted building.
The deceased, John Yawson, a Class Five pupil of Alliance International School, was reportedly found hanging in the structure on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
According to some residents, John had allegedly been denied food by his mother the previous day after an incident at home, which they suspect may have contributed to his actions.
Confirming the incident to JoyNews’ Ina-ThaliaQuansah on Monday evening, the Assembly Member for the area, Enoch Arthur, said the community members initially attempted to save the boy.
“I was informed of the incident yesterday [Monday]. I quickly stopped all that I was doing and rushed to the place. Upon arrival, I was told some people tried saving the boy because per their assessment he wasn't dead but he gave up the ghost while he was being rushed to the hospital”.
The Shama District Police Command has since launched investigations into the incident, while the body has been deposited at the St. Edwards Morgue for autopsy.
