The Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Laadi Ayii Ayamba, has provided fresh details on the chaos that erupted during the Parliamentary vetting session on January 30, attributing the disruption to actions ordered by the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
Testifying before Parliament’s Special Committee investigating the incident, Madam Ayamba, who is also a member of the Appointments Committee, stated that tensions escalated when the minority side decided to walk out of the session but refused to leave peacefully.
“We told the minority that if they were tired, they should leave and let those of us who form a quorum continue with the vetting, but they refused and insisted on causing disruption,” she recounted.
According to her, the situation worsened when Annoh-Dompreh allegedly directed the disconnection of cables and equipment, including consoles, just as the oath was about to be administered to the nominees.
She further revealed that minority members, including MPs identified as Jerry Ahmed Shaib and Hon. Baafi, began lifting tables in protest, further disrupting proceedings.
“It was when we asked the Clerk to administer the oath that the minority started shouting, calling me an ‘NDC woman.’ I called on the Chairman of the Committee to restore order, but at that moment, Jerry declared they would not allow the vetting to proceed. Then, an order came from the Minority Chief Whip to disconnect the cables, and Jerry and Hon. Baafi started lifting tables,” she detailed.
