The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has embarked on a working visit to the Ashanti Region to inspect key road infrastructure and assess ongoing projects.

The visit, which took place on Monday, 3rd March, formed part of the government’s commitment to improving road networks across the country.

During his tour, the Minister engaged with local authorities, engineers, and residents to discuss urgent road concerns in the region.

One of the key decisions taken during the visit was the immediate closure of the Atwima Mponua Bridge due to its deteriorating condition.

The Minister explained that the bridge posed a significant risk to commuters and other road users.

“The current state of this bridge is a serious hazard, and we cannot allow it to remain open when lives are at stake,” he stated.

He assured residents that urgent steps would be taken to address the situation and restore safe passage.

The closure of the bridge is expected to cause temporary inconvenience, but the Minister emphasised that safety must come first.

“I understand that this decision will disrupt movement, but ensuring the safety of road users is our top priority. We will work swiftly to find a solution,” he added.

He directed engineers to conduct a comprehensive assessment and present a plan for reconstruction or repairs as soon as possible.

As part of his visit, Mr Agbodza also inspected other road projects in the region and engaged with stakeholders on the way forward.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, ensuring safer travel, and enhancing economic activities in the Ashanti Region.

Residents welcomed the Minister’s intervention and expressed hope that swift action would be taken to fix the Atwima Mponua Bridge and other deteriorating roads in the area.
