The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that it would officially launch the second phase of the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
This is part of efforts to reaffirm its commitment to empowering young people to lead innovative solutions to combat climate change.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs on behalf of the Coordinating Director, the Assembly said the event would take place at the AMA office in Accra from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and is expected to bring together government officials, climate experts, youth innovators, and development partners to highlight the importance of youth-driven climate action.
The Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF), first announced at Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Innovation Studio during COP28 UAE, is a global initiative aimed at providing technical support and funding for young people aged 15-24 to develop and implement projects that build resilience to climate impacts.
According to the statement, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies, United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and the Bloomberg Centre for Public Innovation, AMA had secured an additional $100,000 under the second phase to scale up youth-led climate initiatives across communities in Accra.
As part of the launch event, the statement emphasised that an Ideation Workshop would equip young participants with the skills, mentorship, and technical guidance required to refine their project ideas for possible funding.
“This initiative is aimed at empowering young people to take the lead in finding practical solutions to the environmental challenges we face as a city,” the statement read, adding that it aligns with the Assembly’s broader agenda for climate resilience and sustainability.
The AMA invited the general public, youth groups, environmental advocates, and stakeholders to attend the event and actively join the movement for a greener Accra.
The statement also noted that more information on the Youth Climate Action Fund and guidelines on how to apply for funding would be made available during the launch and could be accessed via the official AMA platforms.
