The trial of the suspected killer of a queen mother in Nungua, a suburb of Accra, the national capital, will have to wait a little longer before the suspect's plea is even taken.
The incident occurred in February of this year.
The suspect, Samuel Adjei, appeared in court today, but the absence of the trial judge forced a postponement of the proceedings until March 26.
Samuel Adjei faces charges including unlawful possession of firearms and murder.
The police are preparing a duplicate docket to be submitted to the Attorney General’s office for further advice.
Adjei was arrested after Lawrencia Naa Borley, a queen mother of the Ga Adangme Muslim Union in Nungua, known in traditional settings as Naa Gamu- was fatally shot during her enskinment ceremony in February of this year.
The incident occurred when a musket, fired as part of the ceremony, struck the queen mother in the thigh.
The motive behind the gunshot remains unclear, but there are growing calls for stricter security measures at traditional ceremonies.
The family of the deceased is demanding justice for their royal.
