The total value of mobile money transactions in the first two months of 2025 increased to GH¢649.2 billion.
This represented a year-on-year growth of 64.68%.
In the first two months of 2024, the total value of mobile money transactions was estimated at GH¢394.2 billion.
According to data from the Bank of Ghana, the value of mobile money transactions in January 2025 was GH¢333 billion.
It however fell to GH¢316.2 billion in February 2025.
This is despite the existence of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) which was abolished by the new government last week.
Analysts are anticipating that mobile money transactions would go up further, bolstering the financial technology space.
Meanwhile, the total number of registered mobile money accounts stood at 74.1 million, compared with 66.9 million during the same period in 2024.
The registered agents were however estimated at 896,000, but the active agents were 411,000.
In 2024, the total value of mobile money transactions hit a record GH¢3.0192 trillion, about 57.90% growth year-on-year.
