Tensions in Gomoa Amenfi in the Central Region escalated into violence as six houses belonging to some herdsmen were allegedly set ablaze by local farmers following a dispute over crop destruction.
Information gathered by Adom News suggests the attack on Sunday was triggered after cattle from the ranch of the herdsmen destroyed the pepper farm of a local farmer.
In retaliation, some farm workers stormed the herdsmen’s settlement, setting fire to houses and destroying personal belongings.
Properties and money running into thousands of cedis were destroyed in the fire.
Two, including an aged woman who was asleep during the attack, also suffered burns because she was not able to run out in time.
In an interview with Adom News, a herdsman, Sully Iddrisu Adamu, said they are now living in fear because they do not know when the attackers will return.
Currently, six individuals have been arrested by the Winneba Divisional Police Command in connection with the incident and are assisting in the investigations.
