A new poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the leading contender for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general election.
The survey shows that 48% of Ghanaians prefer Dr Bawumia to lead the party again, positioning him as the clear front-runner in the race for NPP’s leadership.
The poll indicates that Dr Bawumia enjoys a significant lead over other potential contenders. Kennedy Agyapong, who contested in the 2024 NPP primaries, garnered 25% of the votes, while Dr Osei Adutwum secured 13%.
The remaining candidates collectively received 14%. These figures suggest that while there is competition within the party, Dr Bawumia remains the preferred choice among the general electorate.
Among NPP voters specifically, support for Dr Bawumia is even stronger, with 57% backing his leadership bid. Kennedy Agyapong follows with 22%, and Dr Osei Adutwum trails with 11%.
This indicates that within the party’s core base, Dr Bawumia enjoys overwhelming approval, reinforcing his position as the most favoured candidate for 2028.
Although the final decision on NPP’s flagbearer will be made by party delegates rather than the general public, the poll highlights Dr Bawumia’s widespread popularity.
His strong support among both the general electorate and NPP members suggests that he remains a formidable figure in Ghanaian politics, setting the stage for an intriguing leadership contest in the coming years.
