The Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Rashid Pelpuo, has reaffirmed the government's dedication to tackling youth unemployment in Ghana.
Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Dr Pelpuo said the government is actively working to provide job opportunities for young people, especially through youth-focused initiatives.
"The commitment to get jobs for young people is paramount in our government. We are working towards achieving that," he said.
He explained that one of the main strategies is to support young people with skills and entrepreneurial potential to work for themselves under the Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative.
"We are working towards those who have some skills, some ability and potential to work on their own," he added.
The Minister also revealed plans to improve access to work opportunities abroad, promising that such programmes will be made widely accessible.
"We are working towards those who are expecting to join the work abroad and we will make it public for everyone to have access to it."
He emphasised efforts to streamline Ghana’s labour system to make it easier for people to find employment locally. Central to this is the Ghana Labour Information System, which he said is already in place.
"It is collating all areas where there are jobs and you can go in and use the computers to access the centres, you know all the available jobs in the country. You look at your skill and you can even sit there and apply to a place where there is job."
The minister encouraged both public and private organisations to sign up for the Labour Information System.
"We are encouraging all public and private sector organisations to join and to enable young people have access to jobs and be able to apply."
