Former Vice President and NPP Flagbearer for the 2024 Elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the rank and file of the NPP to be proud of the good works the government did, inspite of the disappointment which got the government out of office.
Speaking during the party's National Thank You Tour, which he is leading, Dr. Bawumia said inspite of some issues which were not handled well and got Ghanaians to be upset against the government, the government also chalked a number of successes, which he said are positively impacting the nation.
"The defeat meant that as a party, we had to look at issues that contributed to our defeat. It is important to be honest about these issues so we can address them and make the party better," Dr. Bawumia said.
"I have spoken about these issues, the General Secretary has been speaking about these issues and the Committee which investigated our defeat has also spoken about them."
"But inspite of some of these issues and the resentment from Ghanaians, our government also did a lot. We achieved a lot and implemented a number of initiatives which are impacting our nation positively, and posterity will vindicate us, " Dr. Bawumia said.
The former Vice President listed a number of these programmes including investments in infrastructure, education, health and digitalisation.
"People may have been upset with us about certain things, but the truth is that we also have a very good record in government with a number of impactful projects."
"If you look across our eight years in government, we did so much with planting for food and jobs, one constituency, one ambulance to solve the age-long issue of lack of ambulances, fish landing sites, Agenda 111 hospital projects, road projects across the country, Free SHS, etc. We did all these and I believe that inspite of the anger over some of our actions and inactions, posterity will be kind to the NPP, our government and President Akufo-Addo."
" I believe so because President Kufuor was vilified and many also questioned his works. Today, he is celebrated as one of the best Presidents we have had."
