With most Ghanaians heavily reliant on the media and the press for credible information, whether in terms of politics, entertainment, or current affairs, concerns are mounting about the potential impact of misinformation and disinformation on the fairness and freedom of the press.

As reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) grows in today’s information environment, it is critical to address its influence on freedom of expression and journalistic integrity.

In commemoration of World Press Freedom Day 2025, AfriMass GH and the AfriMass Network, in collaboration with BlueCrest College and several media partners, will host an impactful conversation on the future of free expression in an era increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.

The event, themed “Freedom of Expression in the Face of the AI Revolution,” will take place on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the BlueCrest University College Auditorium in Kokomlemle, Accra.

The gathering will spark in-depth conversations on how AI is transforming media, news content creation, and freedom of speech and expression.

Participants will include journalists, media executives, academics, students, and other technocrats who will explore the risks and opportunities AI presents to press freedom and expression in democratic discourse.

The event further seeks to explore the urgency of protecting journalistic integrity and freedom of expression amid rapidly evolving technologies.

Media partners supporting the event, including GhanaWeb, WoezorTV, JoyNews, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, NorvanReports, GHOne TV, MX24 TV, LeatherOnCall, Customer Service Africa, Graphic Online, UNESCO Ghana, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), will share experiences on the use of AI in information dissemination and the ethical challenges it poses in journalism.

Stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to join this critical conversation and be part of the movement shaping the future of media and free expression in Ghana and beyond and to advocate for equitable freedom of expression in today’s digital era.
