President John Dramani Mahama has restated his administration’s firm commitment to tackling corruption, unveiling plans for an independent audit into the National Cathedral project commissioned under the previous Akufo-Addo regime.
Delivering a national address on Wednesday, 7th May, to mark the first 120 days of his presidency, President Mahama announced that renowned global audit firm Deloitte & Touche has been engaged to scrutinise the controversial initiative.
“The war against corruption continues unabated. Deloitte and Touche is conducting an independent audit of the National Cathedral project. I expect their report by the end of this month [May],” he declared.
The President further revealed that investigations are underway into other major government undertakings, notably the organisation of the 13th African Games.
“A number of officials have been invited and questioned concerning the 13th Africa Games,” he confirmed.
These actions, he added, form part of a broader framework of transparency and accountability measures Mahama pledged during his campaign and has continued to champion since assuming office.
