A tragic incident occurred at Twifo Praso on Monday, May 12, 2025, when one Samuel Kwame Afezei, likely in his 50s, lost his life after being electrocuted while working on the third floor of a building.
The building is closer to a high-tension power line and an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer in Twifo Praso Zongo in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region.
The incident had generated anger among residents who said they had raised concerns about the dangers posed by the construction, but to no avail.
The Assembly Member for the Zongo-Anogyan Electoral Area, Richmond Banny, when contacted, said concerns about the safety of the construction site had been raised long before the tragic event.

He said he had alerted the ECG management and the district engineer about the potential dangers posed by the building's proximity to high-voltage wires and equipment; unfortunately, despite his warnings, construction continued.
According to Mr Banny, the situation was exacerbated by political interferences. This alleged political influence led to no action taken by the authorities to prevent such tragic occurrences, he said.
The incident has instigated fear among tenants occupying the first and second floors of the building.
Considering the tragedy, Mr Banny has called on the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Chief Executive to intervene and implement necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring the safety of residents and workers alike.
