Former Ghana Premier League clubs, Real Tamale United (RTU) and Techiman Eleven Wonders, will clash in a high-stakes playoff encounter on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium. At stake is the final promotion slot to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
The two sides earned their places in the decisive fixture after emerging champions of their respective zones in the Access Bank Division One League—RTU topping Zone One A and Eleven Wonders leading Zone One B.
Path to Redemption
For RTU, the playoff represents a shot at redemption after suffering relegation from the top flight last season. The Tamale-based side endured a dismal campaign in the 2023/24 season, collecting just 31 points from 34 matches. However, they have bounced back impressively in the lower tier, finishing with 58 points in Zone One A.
RTU not only registered the highest number of goals (59) in their zone, but also boasted the best defence, conceding only 21 goals in 28 matches. Their tally included 18 wins and just six losses.
Techiman Eleven Wonders, who were relegated three seasons ago, are also eyeing a return to the Premier League. They secured top spot in Zone One B with 53 points—five fewer than RTU—following a campaign marked by resilience and steady performances.
Though they scored fewer goals (42) and conceded more than their Tamale counterparts, Eleven Wonders' consistency earned them 15 victories and only five defeats, proving their readiness to challenge for promotion.
Winner Takes All
With both clubs possessing Premier League pedigree and a strong desire to return to the top tier, the playoff promises to be an intense and tightly contested affair. For one, it will be the culmination of a season-long journey. For the other, another year of rebuilding.
Kick-off is set for Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium, where only one side will earn the right to compete among Ghana’s elite once again.
