Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament staged a walkout on Thursday during the Parliamentary session over the bail conditions of arrested NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The entire NPP MPs were joined by leaders of the party and walked along the principal streets from Parliament House to the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in solidarity with the embattled chairman.
They blocked the entrance of the EOCO head office in their numbers as they held hands and chanted solidarity songs to demand the release of Chairman Wontumi, who has been in custody for nearly 48 hours.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by EOCO on Tuesday, May 27, after he reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for questioning.
He was subsequently held at the EOCO head office in Accra.
His lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, confirmed that his client was being investigated on allegations of causing financial loss to the state.
He was subsequently granted bail of GH¢50 million with two sureties, both to be justified.
Chairman Wontumi, however, spent the night behind bars at the EOCO headquarters in Accra after failing to meet the full bail conditions.
