The vital Accra-Tema Motorway was plunged into chaos this morning as an overturned tipper truck, laden with construction stones, unleashed a cascade of debris across multiple lanes, triggering a colossal gridlock that has trapped thousands of commuters for over two hours.
The incident, occurring between the 18 Junction and the 1st Signboard area, has effectively brought traffic to a standstill in both directions, transforming the normally bustling highway into a vast, immobile car park.
Eyewitnesses describe the scene as utter paralysis.

The truck, carrying an estimated 20-25 tons of aggregate, flipped sideways, spewing its heavy load across a significant stretch of the carriageway, rendering two lanes impassable.
As of 10 AM, there was a noticeable absence of emergency responders or police personnel at the immediate crash site, exacerbating the already dire situation.
Motorists, both private and commercial, expressed deep frustration at the lack of a swift official response.
Commuters heading to Tema from Accra, and vice versa, are experiencing delays, impacting business operations, school runs, and general productivity.
The economic cost of such prolonged traffic jams, in terms of lost productivity and fuel consumption, can run into hundreds of thousands of Ghana Cedis per hour for a major arterial like the Accra-Tema Motorway, which handles an average daily traffic volume of over 50,000 vehicles.
Motorists planning to use the Accra-Tema Motorway are advised to seek alternative routes.
