Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has launched a scathing critique of Effutu MP and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, over what he described as a clear failure to honour his promise of bringing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta into the country to aid in investigations by the Office of Special Prosecutor in May.
His comments come in response to an earlier assurance made by Afenyo-Markin on February 18, where he stated that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta was expected to return to Ghana in May 2025 following a medical assessment abroad.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he asked: “Mr. Speaker, if I may say — referring to Afenyo-Markin — he promised this House that he would bring Ken Ofori-Atta in May. We are now in June. Where is Ken Ofori-Atta? Where is Ken? Where is Ken?”
He went further, questioning the Minority Leader’s credibility:
“You promised us that you would bring Ken to this House. You came here and made a promise. You stood on this floor and assured us that he would return in May. Now we are in June — where is Ken Ofori-Atta?”
He did not hold back, demanding accountability saying “Mr. Speaker, he should no longer be heard in this House. When he makes promises, he does not fulfill them. He comes here, makes statements, and never follows through — and yet he questions the promises of others.”
He concluded with a call for consistency and integrity in leadership: “When you made a promise, did you fulfill it? If we, as Members of Parliament, make promises, we must keep them.”
