Day two into the strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), patients have been left stranded at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, as nurses and midwives continue to withdraw their services over what they say is the government’s failure to implement agreed conditions of service.
Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Leslie Issa Adam-Zakaria confirmed that at the emergency ward, nurses have not reported and it doesn’t look like they will.
At the main emergency ambulance unit, struggling patients have been waiting, but no nurse is available yet to engage them. Just about two nurses were seen at one of the wards of the emergency ambulance ward. They refused to respond to whether they are working.
Nurses and midwives also have withdrawn their services at the labour ward, according to officers working at the counter.
