West African Football Academy (WAFA SC) secured promotion to the 2025/26 Division One League after defeating Kpetoe Diamond FC 2-1 in the final of the 2025 Volta Regional Division Two Middle League at the Ho Youth Resource Centre on Sunday.
A composed finish from Sudais Yakubu in the 57th minute proved decisive, as WAFA SC held off a spirited challenge from Kpetoe Diamond FC to cap an unbeaten campaign with regional championship honours.
The match opened with high intensity, befitting its status as the final of the competition. WAFA SC took control midway through the first half and were rewarded in the 40th minute when Hallo Issa converted a well-worked opportunity to give the academy side the lead.
However, their advantage was short-lived. In the first minute of first-half stoppage time, Kpetoe Diamond FC responded through Tamakloe Oscar, who found the back of the net to level the score at 1-1 going into the break.
The second half resumed with urgency from both sides, but it was WAFA SC who found the breakthrough. Yakubu, alert in the final third, capitalised on a defensive lapse to restore WAFA’s lead in the 57th minute.
Kpetoe Diamond FC pushed for another equaliser, applying pressure in the latter stages of the match, but WAFA SC’s defence remained organised and resilient.
The final whistle confirmed WAFA SC as champions of the 2025 Volta Region Division Two Middle League and marked their return to Division One football.
Their path to the title was marked by consistency and dominance. WAFA SC progressed through the preliminary phase with a perfect record — 18 wins in 18 matches — before navigating the Sub-Middle League with three straight victories. In the final stage, they remained unbeaten, recording three wins and a draw to crown a historic campaign.
