President John Mahama has disclosed that the Bukom Boxing Academy was originally established to identify young talents from across the country, bringing them together to live, train, and study simultaneously.
However, this vision was paused after his tenure ended. He says there is now an opportunity to revive and realize that dream.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Jubilee House by two-time World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua and members of the sports development organisation Legacy Rise Sports, President Mahama stated that Ghana needs a much larger boxing venue.
He expressed regret that his administration did not build the Bukom Boxing Arena as a bigger auditorium.
Over the weekend, Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and son of the President, organized the "Battle of the Beast" boxing event at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The event attracted several major figures from the boxing world, including Anthony Joshua, Amir Khan, and other prominent names.
President Mahama commended his son’s passion for sports, noting that Sharaf began with football and is now investing in boxing to help grow the sport in Ghana.

Anthony Joshua expressed appreciation for the warm welcome he received in Ghana.

He shared that he is entering a new phase of his career aimed at strengthening ties between Africa and the global sporting community.
He also praised Sharaf Mahama’s initiative to revive sports, particularly boxing, in the country.
