President John Dramani Mahama has appointed a new cohort of Ghanaian envoys, with veteran actress Kalsoume Sinare, former Member of Parliament for La-Dadekotopon Nii Amasah Namoale, and former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu among 15 individuals nominated for ambassadorial and high commissioner roles.
Academic giants, former Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Vice Chancellor Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso and the first female Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Associate Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, have also been appointed to different countries.
The appointments, which are subject to parliamentary approval, signal a bold move by President Mahama, featuring notable figures of a blend of public personalities, experienced politicians, and technocrats to champion Ghana's interests abroad.
According to a letter from the Office of the President dated June 10, 2025, and signed by Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, PhD, these nominations were made after consultations with the Council of State, in accordance with Article 74 of the 1992 Constitution.
Kalsoume Sinare, a celebrated Ghanaian actress and former model, has been nominated as the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain.
Known for her extensive career in Ghanaian cinema, featuring in over fifty films, Sinare has also been a vocal supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), publicly endorsing John Mahama in past elections.
Her appointment comes amidst reports of internal party discussions, as her name emerged on the list where her cousin, Alhaji Said Sinare, a seasoned NDC stalwart and former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, was reportedly considered.
Nii Amasah Namoale, a prominent figure within the NDC, has been nominated as Ghana's Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil.
Namoale, an agronomist by profession, served in Parliament from 2005 to 2017 and held ministerial positions, including Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
His extensive political experience is expected to bolster Ghana's diplomatic ties in South America.
