Four excavators with illegal miners at Kyebi have been seized and disabled by the anti-galamsey task force of the National Anti Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
In a strategic operation on Sunday, June 15, the team left Accra about 10:00 hours to assess and quell the activities of illegal miners in the Eastern Region.
On arrival, the team pounced on the illegal miners within the townships of Asikam and Potrase, in the Kyebi general area.
Upon seeing the team, the illegal miners along the Birim River quickly fled the scene to avoid arrest.
Despite the escape, the team managed to remove the control boards of four excavators on site, which were being used by the defiant miners.
After disabling the equipment and foiling the operations of the miners, the team returned to Accra at about 02:00 hours on Monday, June 16, 2025.
Meanwhile the Police in the region are working with the taskforce to apprehend the illegal miners and bring them to book.
The operation, which was generally successful, forms part of efforts by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to address galamsey, through effective swoops, under the leadership of the sector minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.
