Music icon and entrepreneur Okyeame Kwame delivered a masterclass in personal authenticity and branding during his appearance on Joy Prime’s Prime Time Show with George Quaye on Wednesday.
Kwame Nsiah-Apau offered a rare glimpse into the philosophy behind his now-iconic public persona.
Reflecting on his journey, the celebrated artist said the real power of branding lies not in the image you craft but in the truth you live.
“Since I became brand conscious, I realised I cannot sell anything except what I am,” he said.
“Because in the final analysis of branding, what you say you are and how you want people to see you is not the same as who you really are.”
For Okyeame Kwame, personal branding isn’t about performance — it’s about consistency with identity.
“Who you are always comes out,” he noted. “Every brand has one enemy: time. If you are faking it, after a while you get tired, or you do something else, or you dilute it.”
The rapper, also known as the “Rap Dacta,” explained how this self-awareness influenced his image.
“I look at myself as an intelligent, elegant African. So when I’m dressing, that’s what I try to communicate — intelligence and elegance.”
