The second vice president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Roger Barnor, has assumed the reins as acting president of the GBA.
Barnor, a retired referee, replaces Abraham Kotei Neequye, who resigned as president of the GBA last week, citing personal reasons.
Per the GBA's constitution, that vacancy should have been filled by the first vice president of the GBA.
However, Rabon Dodoo, who previously occupied that position, resigned in 2023 over ''philosophical differences'' with Kotei-Neequaye. Rabon Dodoo has since declared his intentions to contest for the authority's presidency in the next elective congress.
In the absence of the first vice, the responsibility automatically passes to the second vice president of the GBA, the constitution prescribes.
Sources have told JoySports that businessman Ivan Bruce Cudjoe will also contest for the seat. The renowned boxing promoter who managed boxers like Lartey Harrison and Patrick Allotey is also the owner of Travel Matters Ghana, a travel and tour company.
Per its constitution, the GBA was scheduled to hold its Annual General Meeting in May, before the elective congress in July.
However, the boxing governing body has not held an AGM in five years.
Sources have told JoySports that the Ministry for Sports and Recreation, through the National Sports Authority, has insisted on an AGM before the next elective congress.
In a unique proposition, the idea of holding the AGM on the same day as the elective congress has been suggested to the Ministry.
