The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a major enhancement to Ghana’s natural gas supply, following an agreement with ENI to increase its output by 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd).
Effective Sunday, July 13, 2025, ENI’s total gas supply will increase to 270 MMscfd—a move the Ministry describes as a strategic intervention to reinforce the nation’s energy infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 9, the Ministry revealed that this boost will require a temporary suspension of ENI’s gas export operations to prioritise domestic supply.
“This temporary measure is essential for optimising the supply chain and ensuring the successful implementation of the supply increase,” the statement said.
It acknowledged that this might affect gas availability for power generation but assured the public that measures were in place to minimise disruptions.
The Ministry indicated that it was working closely with stakeholders in the power sector to maintain stability.
“We have proactively implemented comprehensive measures to mitigate any potential disruptions,” the Ministry stated.
These include enhanced monitoring of power production and contingency planning to ensure minimal impact on electricity supply nationwide.
Reaffirming its commitment to energy security, the Ministry urged public understanding and cooperation during this critical transition.
“We remain committed to ensuring a stable and sustainable energy future for all,” the statement added.
The move is expected to support the country’s broader efforts under the 24-hour economy policy and contribute to long-term energy resilience.
