A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Nuong Faalong, has condemned the electoral violence that erupted in Ablekuma North during Friday’s parliamentary re-run, but insists the incident should not be viewed in isolation.
Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, July 12, in the aftermath of the clashes, Ms Faalong expressed sympathy for the victims and described the incident as deeply regrettable.
However, she noted that such occurrences have become a recurring feature of Ghana’s electoral landscape.
"Ablekuma North and the issues that happened yesterday can not be looked at in a vacuum; it is not an isolated incident of violence in our election. We have had countless incidents."
Her comments come as political parties and civil society organisations call for stronger security interventions and institutional reforms to curb electoral violence across the country.
The opposition New Patriotic Party has since condemned the act and called on the government to act.
