Ghana forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has highlighted the unity within the Black Queens squad as a major factor in their dominant 4-1 win over Tanzania in their final Group C match at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The victory secured Ghana a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament, where they will face Algeria on July 19 at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, with kick-off set for 16:00 GMT.
Speaking after the match, Boye-Hlorkah praised her teammates for their unwavering team spirit, especially in the face of early adversity.
“We conceded the goal, which I take responsibility for, but then, as I look around, all the girls are picking me up. That's what we needed today. That's what the coach wanted, and that's why I told the girls we need a team,” she said.
“We're not going to win this game without being a team, and that's what we did every second of that game. It was just a team, so I'm so proud of the girls. I'm so proud of the fans.”
Ghana will now aim to continue their momentum into the eight where they face Algeria on July 19.
