Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has charged the Ghana Armed Forces to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline.
Addressing officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of Garrisons 1 and 5 at an All Ranks Durbar at Burma Camp, Dr Boamah commended the troops for their bravery and urged them to deal “ruthlessly” with any personnel who stray from military ethics.
“I urged them to deal ruthlessly with those few within their ranks who have deviated or may deviate from the professionalism expected of the Ghana Armed Forces,” the Minister wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday, July 17.
He emphasised that the Ghana Armed Forces must remain a pillar of national integrity and order.
Dr Boamah condemned the destruction of the revered statue in Bawku over the weekend and revealed that the government would ensure its restoration.
He also called for swift and appropriate sanctions for those responsible.
“I condemned the destruction of the cherished statue in Bawku… and assured that the government shall rebuild the statue,” he said.
The Defence Minister further decried the shooting of two soldiers in Bawku and warned against the rising trend of unauthorised guard duties being conducted by soldiers for private individuals.
“I cautioned soldiers who clandestinely provide guard duties for unauthorized persons and urged the military High Command to deal with this illegal phenomenon in earnest,” he added
