The Vice Chairman of the 2024 Bawumia Campaign Team, Nana Akomea, has explained why the party rejected former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s request to postpone the National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, 19th July, 2025.
According to Nana Akomea, the former president had written to the party expressing his wish to attend the conference in person, but explained that he would be out of the country on the set date.
He therefore requested that the conference be rescheduled to the end of August, when he expects to return to Ghana.
Following this, the party convened an emergency meeting of the National Council, the body responsible for setting the conference date, to consider the former president’s appeal.
However, Nana Akomea disclosed that due to logistical reasons, the council was unable to accede to the request.
“The request came in a bit late,” he explained. “All arrangements have already been made for the conference, which is expected to attract some 6,000 party members from across the country to Accra.”
He further noted that the venue, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, had been secured already, along with accommodation at UPSA and Valley View University.
He noted that payments for the venue and related services had already been completed, making it impractical to guarantee availability should the conference be postponed to late August.
The National Delegates Conference will therefore proceed as planned on 19th July 2025.
