The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has ordered the immediate closure of Zuarungu Senior High School until further notice.
The directive comes in the wake of violent clashes between Gurune and Kusasi students on Sunday, 20th July, reportedly sparked by the alleged theft of a mobile phone.
The altercation escalated into a full-blown brawl, resulting in the burning of some school structures and heightened tensions across the campus.

According to media reports, four students have been arrested in connection with the incident. However, one suspect is said to have escaped while being transported to the police station, allegedly seizing a police officer’s magazine during the escape.
In anticipation of possible reprisal attacks, a joint team of police and military personnel has been deployed to escort students from Bawku back to their hometown under heavy security.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and steps are being taken to restore calm to the area.
