The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that all road works under the government’s flagship ‘Big Push’ infrastructure initiative will run on a 24-hour construction schedule.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series held at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, 30th July, Mr Agbodza stated that the continuous work plan is designed to fast-track project completion and minimise inconvenience to the public.
He explained that contractors working on strategic national roads and high-impact urban corridors will be required to implement three shifts daily to maintain round-the-clock operations.
“Every contractor working under the ‘Big Push’ programme will be expected to operate in three shifts,” Mr Agbodza said. “We are not going to allow road construction to drag unnecessarily. These are critical roads needed to open up the economy and improve connectivity.”
The Minister emphasised that the accelerated timelines will not come at the expense of quality. He assured Ghanaians that adequate resourcing, supervision, and monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to guarantee value for money.
“We’ll monitor progress closely to ensure that quality is not compromised despite the speed of delivery. Ghanaians deserve value for money and we are determined to give them exactly that,” he added.
The ‘Big Push’ initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to modernise Ghana’s road infrastructure, drive economic growth, and enhance regional integration through efficient transportation networks.
