The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have stepped up counterinsurgency operations in Bawku and its surrounding areas as part of efforts to restore peace and protect residents from extremist threats.
According to a statement from GAF, the heightened security measures are in response to intelligence reports suggesting attempts by violent extremists to exploit the instability in Bawku to infiltrate the country.
The operations aim to disrupt such attempts and maintain law and order in the Upper East Region.
The military stated that these operations involve a combination of intelligence-led patrols, targeted raids, and enhanced surveillance activities.
The intensified presence is also expected to curb the rising incidents of armed attacks and ensure the safety of communities along the country’s northeastern borders.
GAF assured the public of its commitment to professionalism and respect for human rights in carrying out these duties.
They also encouraged residents to cooperate with security personnel by providing credible information to help neutralise any potential threats.
