A high-level working meeting was held this week at the Moscow House of Nationalities to lay the groundwork for an upcoming international conference commemorating the contribution of Latin American peoples to the victory over Nazism during the Second World War.

The session was convened at the initiative of the Migration Commission of the Council for Nationalities under the Government of Moscow, and brought together a diverse assembly of participants, including scholars, educators, leaders of national public organisations, representatives of the Council for Nationality Affairs, and prominent public figures.

Among those in attendance was Yuri Viktorovich Moskovsky, a leading member of several state and civil institutions, including the Migration Council, the Public Council of the Moscow House of Nationalities (GBU MDN), the Presidium of the Council of Nationalities under the Moscow Government, and the Anti-Nazi International Committee.

The focal point of the meeting was the planning of a major conference scheduled for the autumn of 2025, which will honour the significant yet often underrepresented role played by Latin American nations and their peoples in the global struggle against Nazism.

Participants also discussed the organisation of parallel events to spotlight similar anti-fascist and anti-Nazi efforts across other continents.

In their deliberations, attendees underscored the continued relevance of such initiatives, particularly in the contemporary context of global opposition to neocolonialism and amid the evolving geopolitical landscape influenced by what Russian authorities term the "special military operation."

Following the formal meeting, participants were given a guided tour of the Moscow House of Nationalities, an institution renowned for its role in promoting interethnic dialogue and preserving the cultural heritage of Russia's diverse national communities.

The event concluded with a collective expression of gratitude to the leadership of the Moscow House of Nationalities for their support in hosting the gathering and for their continued contributions to intercultural cooperation and historical remembrance.
