Russia has allocated 120 government scholarship places to Ghanaian students for the 2026/27 academic year as part of efforts to strengthen educational cooperation between the two countries.

The Russian Embassy in Ghana said the scholarship allocation forms part of Moscow’s commitment to expanding academic exchanges and building stronger institutional links with Ghanaian higher education institutions.

According to the embassy, direct partnerships are being developed between universities and other tertiary institutions in Ghana and Russia to promote knowledge sharing, research collaboration and student mobility.

It noted that Takoradi Technical University (TTU) had become the first Ghanaian institution to join the Russian-African Network University, a platform aimed at promoting cooperation among higher education institutions across Russia and Africa.

The embassy said the development marked an important step in deepening academic relations between Ghana and Russia and creating more opportunities for students, researchers and academic institutions.

It further disclosed that more than 500 students are currently studying the Russian language at the University of Ghana and the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC).

The growing interest in the Russian language, the embassy said, reflects expanding cultural and educational ties between the two countries.

"A government quota of 120 places has been allocated to Ghana for the 2026/27 academic year. Direct links are being developed between Russian and Ghanaian higher education institutions. Takoradi Technical University became the first Ghanaian member of the Russian-African Network University. Over 500 students are studying Russian at the University of Ghana and UniMAC," the Embassy posted on social media on Monday, July 20.

Russia and Ghana have in recent years increased cooperation in education, with Moscow providing scholarships and supporting academic exchanges as part of broader efforts to strengthen people-to-people relations.

The embassy said it remains committed to expanding educational opportunities for Ghanaian students through scholarships, institutional partnerships and cultural exchange programmes.
