The NPP Chairman of the Bono Regional Council of Elders says the party’s prospects of reclaiming power in the 2028 general election are brighter with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate.
James Kofi Kyeremeh, popularly known as “Shekinah,” appealed to NPP delegates across the country to maintain the former Vice President as the party’s flagbearer when they go to the polls in January 2026 to elect a new presidential candidate.
He affirmed that the Council of Elders in the region is fully backing Dr Bawumia’s bid to lead the party into the next general election.
Speaking in an interview in Sunyani on Thursday, Mr Kyeremeh noted that the NPP stands a better chance of winning in 2028 with Dr Bawumia due to his wide appeal, media visibility, proven track record, and leadership experience. “
We are seriously preparing to commence the Election 2028 campaign in the region, and some of us are highly optimistic that Bawumia is the best bet to lead the party to electoral victory,” he said.
Mr Kyeremeh made these remarks during an interaction between Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a leading member of the NPP and campaign team member of Dr Bawumia, and some members of the Council of Elders in Sunyani.
Mr Mensah echoed similar sentiments, stating that although all declared aspirants for the 2026 primaries were competent, Dr Bawumia remained the most marketable and visible among them.
He urged delegates to give the former Vice President the nod, adding that the NPP’s 41 per cent performance in the 2024 election was a strong foundation to build upon.
Mr Mensah also made a financial donation to support the council’s political activities.
