Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on the public and media to respect the privacy of the bereaved family of Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, during their period of mourning.
In a message shared via the official Facebook page of the Ministry, Mrs. Gomashie extended her condolences following a visit to the late musician’s family home. The visit was to express sympathy and fulfill customary obligations in honour of the departed music icon.
The Minister paid special tribute to Daddy Lumba’s widow and urged Ghanaians to give the family the space and dignity they deserve during this difficult time.
“This is a difficult time for the family, and we must all show compassion by respecting their privacy,” she said. “His passing is a huge loss to the creative community and to the nation.”
Mrs. Gomashie praised the late musician’s remarkable legacy, describing his contribution to Ghanaian music as both influential and enduring.
She also disclosed that the Ministry was in the advanced stages of planning a major highlife music festival in which Daddy Lumba was expected to play a key role. The festival, she noted, is part of a broader cultural initiative to promote and preserve Ghana’s indigenous music.
“Losing him at such a time is heartbreaking,” she added. “We were planning something big that he would have been proud of and actively involved in.”
