Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed his deepest condolences following the tragic helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region that resulted in the death of two ministers of state and six others.
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, announced the tragic news at a press conference on Wednesday, August 6, and directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.
He also extended the government’s condolences to the bereaved families and the nation.
The deceased include Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East; and Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the NDC and a former Kumasi Mayor.
In a post shared on Facebook, Dr Bawumia conveyed his sympathies to President John Dramani Mahama, describing the news as “heart-wrenching” and reflecting on the sacrifice made by the fallen officials. “The fallen men paid the ultimate price in the service of our motherland, leaving a shocked nation in pain,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia revealed that he personally knew most of those who perished and shared the profound sense of loss felt by many.
“I equally feel a sense of loss to see their demise under such horrid circumstances,” he added.
Joining the nation in mourning, Dr Bawumia, alongside his wife Samira, the Bawumia family, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), called for strength and healing in this difficult time.
“May the good Lord grant the bereaved families, the government, and people of Ghana strength and healing in this time of tragedy,” he concluded.
