The 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two ministers of state and six others today, Wednesday, August 6.
In a Facebook post shared via his official Facebook page, Dr Bawumia extended his heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama and the bereaved families.
Dr Bawumia described the incident as a “heart-wrenching” national tragedy, saying the fallen public servants had paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
“The fallen men paid the ultimate price in the service of our motherland, leaving a shocked nation in pain,” he wrote.
The post noted that he had personally known several of the deceased, and their passing had left him with a profound sense of loss.
The former Vice President also emphasised the emotional weight of the tragedy, not just for the families involved, but for the entire nation.
“I know most of the deceased personally and equally feel a sense of loss to see their demise under such horrid circumstances,” he stated.
On behalf of his wife, Samira Bawumia, their family, and the New Patriotic Party, Dr Bawumia joined the rest of Ghana in mourning the departed.
He urged Ghanaians to unite in prayer for strength and healing during this painful period.
“May the good Lord grant the bereaved families, the government and people of Ghana strength and healing in this time of tragedy,” he added.
