The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the bodies of all eight victims of the Z-9 helicopter crash have been airlifted to Accra.
The tragic incident occurred in the general area of Sikaman, near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The remains were flown in on Wednesday, August 6, aboard a Ghana Air Force Casa aircraft.
Upon arrival at the Air Force Base in Accra, the bodies were received with solemnity by a delegation of government officials led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, along with the Military High Command and several sympathisers.
According to a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, the bodies have since been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital for onward burial arrangements.
“The Ghana Armed Forces once again wishes to thank the good people of Sikaman and all security services for their support during the recovery effort,” the statement read.
The crash has sent waves of grief across the nation, with many Ghanaians mourning the loss of dedicated servicemen and public servants who perished in the line of duty.
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, together with the Military High Command, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“This is a difficult national tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families during this dark hour,” the statement added.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
