The Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the University of Media, Arts and Communication – Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ) has expressed deep sorrow and profound grief following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6.
In an official statement, TEIN UniMAC-IJ extended heartfelt condolences to President John Mahama, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Government of Ghana, and the bereaved families affected by the tragedy.
The names of the deceased are:
- Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
- Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed (MP) – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture
- Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
- Mr Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
The first five individuals were described as esteemed senior comrades of the NDC, while the latter three were dedicated servicemen of the Ghana Armed Forces.
“Their loss is not only a devastating blow to their families and loved ones but also to the entire NDC fraternity and the nation at large,” the statement read.
TEIN UniMAC-IJ further acknowledged the collective service of the departed to the Republic of Ghana, highlighting their patriotism and unwavering commitment to peace, democracy, and national development.
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may the Almighty grant strength and comfort to all who mourn them in this difficult moment,” the statement concluded.
