Director of Programmes and Policy Engagement at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), Dr Kwame Pumpuni Asante, has called for a critical review of the resources and logistics available to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in the wake of the fatal military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofoum.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 16, he stressed that resourcing the military adequately is essential for ensuring safety and efficiency in their operations.
“We need to look at GAF and the resources available to them. This tragic accident must push us to reflect on whether our military has what it needs to work safely and effectively,” Dr Asante stated.
He noted that beyond mourning the fallen officers and ministers, the country must examine systemic issues that may have contributed to the crash.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.
Also killed were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
A state funeral was held on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square in Accra, where national leaders, military personnel, and citizens paid their final respects.
Dr Asante observed that while the tragedy has plunged the nation into mourning, it should also serve as a wake-up call.
