Ghana has commissioned a $3.5 million fertilizer plant at Shai Hills to enhance agricultural productivity and improve national food security.
The facility, developed by Invess Agriculture Ltd in partnership with Nitron Group and managed by AAA Infrastructure Ghana Ltd, is expected to produce 385,000 metric tons of granular fertilizer annually, including 20 specialised formulations approved by COCOBOD.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare described the investment as “a decisive step toward sustainable agribusiness growth, job creation, and strengthening Ghana’s position in regional trade.”
She said the plant’s output would reduce reliance on fertilizer imports and empower farmers to increase yields.
She later led a delegation on a guided tour of the facility, observing its advanced blending and quality control systems.
Chief Executive Officer of AAA Infrastructure, Patrick Ohene-Djan, highlighted the plant’s alignment with the government’s industrialisation drive and the 24-hour economy vision.
“Each shift undertaken, each unit produced, and every pound of fertilizer blended at our facility directly impacts families throughout Ghana, reinforcing the agricultural sector that underpins our nation’s future,” he stated.
Invess Agriculture also announced plans to establish a five-million-litre liquid fertilizer plant to serve the ECOWAS market, further positioning Ghana as a regional hub for fertilizer production
