The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Friday, August 22, officially opened nominations for its parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central Constituency.
This development comes in the wake of the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who lost his life in the tragic helicopter crash on 6 August that claimed the lives of eight people.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party explained that nomination forms would be available for collection and submission at the NDC Northern Regional Office.
The nomination process, which began today, August 22, is scheduled to close on Sunday, August 24.
The statement further detailed the guidelines governing the primary, indicating that a certified delegates’ list would be released to aspirants once the vetting exercise has been completed.
It added that nomination forms are priced at GH₵5,000, while the filing fee stands at GH₵40,000. However, female aspirants and persons with disabilities will receive a 50 per cent concession on the filing fee.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that it will not contest the Tamale Central by-election.
According to the party, this decision is in respect of the late MP, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, whose sudden passing has left a significant void in the constituency.
