The Technical Adviser to the Minister of Finance, Frederick Amissah, has emphasised that President John Mahama is committed to sustaining the livelihoods of cocoa farmers through a holistic economic vision.
He was speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 23.
Mr Amissah explained that the government’s strategy goes beyond offering attractive prices to farmers.
He said, "The most important thing is that President Mahama has kept to his promise. Now we are looking at the livelihood of the cocoa farmers; we are not just looking at some nominal amount of money. We are looking at, in the midst of all this, what the farmer can do with 51,000 per tonne."
Adding to that, the government's focus is on improving the wider economy so that farmers also benefit from reduced fuel costs, lower food prices and affordable essential goods.
