Presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, has called on the Black Stars to show greater commitment and national pride as they prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.
Ghana lead Group I with 15 points, three more than second place Comoros will seek to secure a place at the World Cup for the fifth time when they face Chad on Thursday, at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno, before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, 8 September.
Speaking ahead of both ties, Agyapong said the players must treat matches as a duty to the nation rather than focusing on financial rewards.
“We need to work harder and get Ghanaian players to play for the country. That’s what used to be the case — the dedication and pride in playing for the flag, rather than the constant talk about money and allowances,” he said.
“These are professional players who already earn a lot where they play. They should see this as a call to national duty, as an opportunity to enhance their CVs, and appreciate their value as footballers. Most importantly, they should focus on working hard and be prepared to die a little for the country.”
Kick-off against Chad is scheduled for 1pm on Thursday, 4 September 2025.
