Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has strongly condemned what he described as an act of political provocation involving senior members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), alleging they unlawfully entered an NDC office and tore down party posters.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Gbande claimed that NPP Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, were directly involved in the incident.

“What I do know is that the incident that occurred, part of it had to do with the Honourable Afenyo-Markin, with Justin Kodua entering into the NDC’s party office to tear posters. And I think that these are very bad practices politically, it’s not done,” Gbande said.

He described the conduct as undemocratic and dangerous, particularly in the sensitive post-election period.

Gbande emphasized that any allegations of illegal activity during elections must be addressed by law enforcement agencies, not political parties acting on their own.

“When an election is in session, the enforcement of rights and security is the responsibility of the police. If you have identified that there is something wrong or unlawful, it was for you to report to the police for action to be taken. But when you arrogate to yourself the right to enforce, it gives people the leeway to do all manner of things,” he explained.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary further described the situation as avoidable, warning that such actions could be part of a broader attempt by the NPP to create unrest following its defeat in the recent elections.

“It is not justifiable that because of that conduct some of these developments should ensue. I think it was avoidable. But beyond that, I am aware that the NPP, having lost this election, will try to find something to sit on and cling to, to disturb the public,” Gbande alleged.
