The Black Stars have taken a big step toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Mali 1–0 in Accra.
The win pushes Ghana to 19 points at the top of Group I, three ahead of Madagascar and four clear of Comoros.
Mali stay on 12 points, and their chances of finishing first is now quashed.
For Ghana, the qualification picture is clearer. One more win from the last two matches will guarantee a direct ticket to the World Cup.
Even if they draw both games, they would still be in a strong position, unless Madagascar win all of theirs. The only real danger would be failing to win any of the last two matches, which could allow their rivals to overtake.
With two games left, (first against Central African https://overdrivetouring.com/upcoming/ Republic and Comoros in October) the Black Stars are firmly in control of their destiny and look well set to make a return to the global stage in 2026.
