The Northern Regional Veterinary Service has issued a public health alert after reports of unusual cattle deaths in the Disah community, some of which were allegedly smuggled into nearby towns.
The affected communities include Singa, Tari, Somum, Nabeugu, Tunsungu, and parts of Tamale. Samples from the dead cattle have been sent to the Pong-Tamale Veterinary Laboratory for testing, with preliminary results expected in the coming days.

Health facilities across the affected districts have been placed on high alert and advised to immediately report any unusual illnesses that could be linked to the consumption of beef from the suspected cattle.
Northern Regional Veterinary Officer, Dr Evans Nso, confirmed that his team had already taken samples from the area for further testing.

He strongly cautioned residents against consuming the carcasses and urged cattle dealers to halt the movement of livestock from Disah until the situation is resolved.
Dr Evans added that the Veterinary Service, the Ghana Health Service at both district and regional levels, and environmental officers, are collaborating with the Regional Coordinating Council to contain the situation.

"The Veterinary service, with environmental officers and the Ghana Health Service at the district levels together with the regional, are working closely with the RCC to make sure that they bring this outbreak to a close," he said.
